The largest ever IDA20 financing package has just been agreed. Achievement of the hoped for development outcomes will be dependent on efficient implementation of a larger volume of projects and programs, as well as a broader institutional environment favoring strong governance. While the primary responsibility for addressing these challenges rests with the recipient government and IDA, civil society organizations (CSOs) can help. They can be partners in delivery and assuring accountability for results.
CGD and TAI will co-host a panel discussion on how best to elevate and adequately fund CSO engagement in IDA20 implementation, drawing on past experiences and recognizing current institutional constraints. Can effective civil society engagement in this IDA round become a model for other multilateral financing? These issues have been discussed in a study prepared by Partnership for Transparency (PTF) with support from the Open Society Foundations (OSF). The event will begin with a presentation by PTF on the findings and recommendations, after which the panelists will present stakeholder perspectives. The draft study will be launched officially for stakeholder consultations at the event.
