Hearing will continue in Jan. 2020 regarding Claimant’s employment status

LONDON - Today, Judge James Tayler of the UK Employment Tribunal issued a positive ruling (case number 2200909/2019) for the Center for Global Development in a case brought by Maya Forstater, who was previously affiliated with the organization and its European affiliate, CGDE.
Judge Tayler heard arguments last month regarding the Claimant’s beliefs on gender and sexual identity, and has ruled today that they are not protected under the Equality Act 2010, noting that they are not worthy of respect in a democratic society and that they conflict with the fundamental rights of others. He observed that the Claimant was not entitled to ignore the legal rights of a person who has transitioned from male to female or vice versa and the “enormous pain that can be caused by misgendering a person."
Judge Tayler decided to first hear arguments on the claimant’s beliefs back in November, and delayed employment status arguments until a hearing now set for late January 2020.
