Program Coordinator – Energy Policy

The Center for Global Development is seeking a Program Coordinator to support the work of the energy program. The successful candidate will have strong writing, analytical, and administrative skills plus interest/experience in energy policy.

CGD is a think-and-do tank with offices in London and Washington, DC that works to reduce poverty in developing countries by improving the policies of industrialized countries and global institutions. We undertake research and develop practical policy ideas. This position is a chance to for an entrepreneurial individual to study and influence energy policy, working alongside researchers and policy professionals.

What you’ll be working on:

The coordinator will work closely with senior fellow Todd Moss to support the work of CGD’s energy program and play a central role in the creation and incubation of a new initiative, the Energy for Growth Hub. The Hub is a network of scholars at U.S. universities and African think tanks working on issues affecting large-scale energy systems aimed at job creation in industry and commerce.

Responsibilities:

This role will comprise of approximately 25% research and 75% administrative responsibilities. The main responsibilities are to:

  • Research global energy issues and policies
  • Review and synthesize relevant policy and academic literature
  • Analyze data and create graphics
  • Provide administrative support for the Hub, including managing logistics, contacts, and projects
  • Contribute to the design and content of the Hub content and website
  • Support grant writing, monitoring, and budget tracking
  • Provide written contributions to working papers, blogs, policy briefs, and external correspondence
  • Edit papers, briefs, and memos
  • Liaise with external partners around the US and abroad
  • Organize and attending meetings/conferences

Qualifications and skills:

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and a sense of humor
  • A demonstrated passion for energy and development
  • Strong organizational and communications skills
  • Stellar writing and editing skills; must be able to communicate academic research clearly, thoughtfully, and without jargon
  • An interest in helping build an organization from scratch
  • Experience with CRM and project management software
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline and 2 years of relevant experience; strong candidates with a BA will be considered
  • Self-confidence, a can-do attitude, and willingness pitch in
