I’m very pleased to announce the addition of Stephen T Isaacs to the Center for Global Development’s Board of Directors. Steve has been a leader in the biomedical field for over 30 years, founding companies that focus on developing novel, innovative immunotherapies and vaccines for cancer and infectious diseases. He is the Chairman, Director, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Aduro Biotech.
In addition to his leadership in the biomedical field, Steve has been actively involved in supporting research and on-the-ground NGOs focused on the developing world. In early 2016, with Steve’s support, the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) launched the Alliance for Global Health and Science (the Alliance)—a partnership between UC Berkeley’s Biological Sciences Division and the UC Berkeley School of Public Health. The Alliance will expand existing public health efforts and create new world-class research collaborations between Berkeley faculty and partners in developing countries including Uganda and Zimbabwe. Additionally, Steve was instrumental in Aduro’s support of the Immunotherapeutics and Vaccine Research Initiative (IVRI) at UC Berkeley, with the aim of accelerating breakthrough discoveries and making an impact on global health.
Steve’s involvement with global wellness extends into his personal life as well. In 2004, he and his family founded A Better Education Club (ABE) geared towards supporting community and educational development in the Mount Kasigau area of Kenya. Recently, a former ABE student became the first alumna to graduate from medical school.
Steve will add private sector perspective, practical global health expertise, and a deep commitment to the challenges facing the developing world to the CGD Board. Welcome Steve!
